Lucero Macias-Torres

SLEWS Sacramento/San Joaquin Program Coordinator

SLEWS Program Coordinator with over four years of experience in youth development and program coordination. She holds a B.S. in International Agricultural Development with a concentration in rural communities from UC Davis.

Lucero is deeply passionate about agriculture and supporting the communities within it. She grew up in the heart of the Delta, surrounded by pear ranches, where she developed a lifelong connection to the land and a strong appreciation for agricultural work. Her experiences growing up in agriculture continue to drive her commitment to uplifting and empowering the agricultural community in every aspect of her work.

She has supported youth in their career exploration and agricultural workforce development through her roles with universities, national organizations, and federal programs. She also spent several years working for university cross-cultural centers, coordinating large-scale events that celebrated the diversity of cultural identities and traditions across communities.

As a student at UC Davis, Lucero served as an Aggie Ambassador and was actively involved in MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences), where she now continues to serve as an advisor supporting marginalized students in professional development. She has contributed to agricultural policy and affairs through her work with the International Fresh Produce Association and the Agricultural Council of California, supporting initiatives like the Buy American Bill and collaborating with state legislators.

Outside of work, Lucero enjoys traveling—she has visited over eight countries—volunteering at community events, face painting, photography, and staying active at the gym. She also loves exploring local markets, attending festivals, and joining in on fun events like trivia nights.
