Ethan Mermell

Urban Ag Internship Program Coordinator

Ethan joined Center for Land Based Learning in September 2025 as the Urban Ag Internship Program Coordinator. Ethan comes to CLBL with experience in garden-based education, small-scale organic agriculture, and project-based food systems and climate work.

A Master’s in Community Development at UC Davis initially brought Ethan to the Sacramento Valley. During his graduate degree, Ethan worked as a Teaching Assistant for a variety of courses taught at the UC Davis Student Farm. Ethan holds an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies from San Francisco State University. During his time at SF State, Ethan worked as an educator with the San Francisco Botanical Gardens, Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, and interned at an urban salad greens greenhouse.

Between his undergraduate and graduate degrees Ethan spent time as a garden educator at an elementary school and at a non-profit community center. Interested in learning more about organic production, Ethan partook in an apprenticeship at a small-scale farm in Oregon, followed by time managing a non-profit educational farm in Monterey.

Ethan is deeply passionate about fostering connections between youth, the food system, and the natural world. In his free time, Ethan enjoys riding his bike, cooking the bountiful produce of Northern California, fishing, and playing bass guitar.
