Applicants notified of admission: Late Summer 2012
CLASSES START: Thursday, February 16, 2012- CLASS FULL, no longer accepting applications for this session.
Graduation: August 18, 2012
The California Farm Academy is accepting applications now through December 9, 2011 for the first session, starting February 16, 2012. Applicants will be notified of admission in mid to late December, and are required to respond, with payment, no later than January 13, 2012. Late applications will be accepted until the start date or the program fills, at which time a waiting list will be established. If space becomes available, qualified applicants from the waiting list will be admitted in the order in which their applications were received.
The California Farm Academy is accepting applications for the second session, starting late Fall, 2012 or Winter 2013.
Requirements for admission include:
- A strong desire to become a specialty crop farmer
- A commitment to participate in 7-10 hours of training per week, and
- Transportation to attend classes near Winters, CA and at other nearby locations.
- Some previous experience with farming is preferred. Classes and activities are conducted in English
The cost of the six-month training program is $1,950. This covers approximately 200 contact hours including classes, hands-on experience, one-on-one consultations, farm visits and field trips. Printed curriculum materials are provided, as are the necessary machinery, tools and supplies for the activities.
There is no application fee, however full or partial payment for the program is required upon acceptance in order to secure your place in the program. A payment plan of three equal installments of $650 each is available. If minimum payment is not made by the due date, the participant will lose their spot in the program and it may be offered to a wait-listed applicant.
