Applicants notified of admission: Early December 2012

CLASSES START: January, 29, 2013

The California Farm Academy is accepting applications until Nov. 9, 2012 for the second session, or until it is filled.

Requirements for admission include:

A strong desire to become a specialty crop farmer
A commitment to participate in 7-10 hours of training per week, and
Transportation to attend classes near Winters, CA and at other nearby locations.
Some previous experience with farming is preferred. Classes and activities are conducted in English

The cost of the nine-month training program is $2,100 . This covers approximately 270 contact hours including classes, hands-on experience, one-on-one consultations, farm visits and field trips. Printed curriculum materials are provided, as are the necessary machinery, tools and supplies for the activities.

There is no application fee, however full or partial payment for the program is required upon acceptance in order to secure a place in the session. A payment plan of three equal installments of $700 each is available. If minimum payment is not made by the due date, Jan 4, 2013, the participant will lose their spot in the program and it may be offered to a wait-listed applicant.

An Informational Session will be held at CLBL on Tues., Oct. 30, 2012 from 5-7:30 pm.

You will hear more about the California Farm Academy, get an introduction to what it takes to create a successful start-up farm business, and be able to tour the farm. Come meet the CFA Director, staff, farmers, and other agricultural educators who will be leading the program!
