Educational Programs

at the Farm on Putah Creek include a diverse selection of tours, hands-on workshops, technical assistance workshops, volunteer opportunities, and internships that are crafted to help educate the public about the interrelationships between agriculture and native ecological systems.

• Groups consist of a diverse cross- section of the public, and range from students – such as K-8 school classes, high school students, and undergraduate and graduate students; to restoration, conservation, and agricultural professionals
• Group sizes may consist of a few individuals to groups of 75 or more
• Programs are offered Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with weekend activities available by special arrangement and advanced notice only
• Prices are based on size of tour group, length of activity, and degree of complexity of the activity (e.g. amount of preparation time required, or amount of staff required)
• Special arrangement for food and refreshments are also available

The amount of time your group spends at the Farm is up to you. A tour can be as basic as a half-hour walk-and-talk to a full- day workshop that includes many hand-on activities.

Topics generally addressed include: soils, recycling on the farm, wildlife habitat, integrated pest management, and water quality; conservation practices such as tail water ponds, hedgerow and native plantings, native pollinators, and native plant propagation; organic walnut production and sustainable industrial-scale agriculture. The broad spectrum of activities at the Farm allow for the creation of a unique experience; activities can be designed to meet each groups' needs – from a “first glimpse” to programs that specifically build on existing knowledge.
